Smart meters are a fantastic tool for monitoring your energy and helping you find ways to save some valuable cash on your monthly energy bills.
Am I eligible for a smart meter?
If you haven't already got smart meters, yes, you are eligible for a smart meter installation free of charge.
What are the benefits of smart meters?
By having a smart meter installed, you will also be given an In Home Display device to monitor your usage and see your daily costs down to the penny.

How do I get a smart meter installed?
You can arrange a smart meter appointment on your online account.
On the day, an engineer(s) will visit your property and exchange your old meter for a brand new one. The process only takes around 45 minuets per meter so you won’t be required to stay in the property all day, just make sure you are available at your home for the period of your time slot.
If the appointment slot we have given is not suitable, please do get in touch at least 48 hours before the appointment slot so we can rearrange to another time.
Time slots will either be AM (08:00-12:00) or PM (13:00-17:00).
On the day of your installation, make sure you are available towards the end of your appointment so that the friendly engineer can run through how the devices work and what they have done.

If you have storage heaters and since the smart meter was installed they are not functions correctly, please contact us and we can ensure the switch is activated on your meter.
How often will readings be taken?
If your electricity smart meter was installed before 3 November 2022
Your electricity smart meter will have been set to send meter readings once a day. You will have been able to change the settings to send readings every half hour or once a month.
If you've made certain changes since 3 November 2022, your smart meter will have been switched to the same settings as meters installed since that date. Changes that reset your meter are:
- switching supplier
- switching tariff
- agreeing to send readings more often
After you make any of the changes your smart meter will be set to send meter readings every half hour. You can only change the settings to send readings once a day.
The frequency at which meter readings are collected from your smart meter will be set to half-hourly. However, you can change this after the installation via your online account and mobile app.

Do I have to have a smart meter installed?
We are required to take all reasonable steps to install a smart meter. This includes replacing RTS, end of life and faulty meters with a smart meter.
You don’t need to do anything, however, we and/or SMS may contact you to see if you want a smart meter. If you don’t want to receive these notifications, you should contact us asking to opt out of smart meter communications.
